Please note that the room rates identified on the Housing Form included four nights accommodation with three meals a day. We advise everyone to make reservations only through Asilomar as they will ensure that everyone who registers will have a very reasonable accommodation and meal plan.

Dear colleagues,

We have received several inquiries about booking accommodations at Asilomar for the June conference and are sending this brief note to clarify the room reservation procedures.

All instructions and room reservation forms will be posted on the SPR website in mid-January. We will send an email to all SPR members and non-members who submitted proposals indicating that room information has been posted. Asilomar will function as a central accommodation booking agent. We advise everyone to make reservations only through Asilomar as they will ensure that everyone who registers will have a very reasonable accommodation and meal plan. Please do NOT contact Asilomar until we have posted the room reservation protocol on the SPR website in mid-January (they will not accept any reservations until we have posted the information).

We look forward to seeing you in June.

2009 Australian Regional Group Meeting
Brisbane, November 30 – December 2, 2009
Conference Monday 30/11 & Tuesday 1/12
Workshop Wednesday 2/12

Keynote Speakers
Robert DeRubeis, University of Pennsylvania
Brin Grenyer, University of Wollongong

The organising committee of the 2009 Australian Regional Group Meeting of the Society for Psychotherapy Research extends a warm welcome to researchers,
practitioners and others interested in recent developments in psychotherapy research. The value of psychotherapy in the treatment of uncomplicated depression
and anxiety disorders has been well established through efficacy trials. Our conference theme recognises that many people seeking help in our consulting rooms,
clinics and mental health services have multiple problems or characteristics that make treatment challenging.
Investigation of the effectiveness of psychotherapy in routine practice with all its complexity is the new research frontier.
The Meeting includes a 2-day conference for which papers are invited and a 1-day workshop with Robert DeRubeis.
Participants can register for either or both components.

Dear SPR members,
as the "Session by session outcome measurement" seems to be a subject of interest for a group of our members,
I setup an unmoderated forum, which is available for SPR members only through http://www.psychotherapyresearch.org/forumviewtopic.cfm?forumnbr=6367&topicnbr=12479 or by selecting "SPR Forums" from the "Member Section" menu. It's an easy to use SPR online service, where you can post comments and information on a certain subject. I'd like to take this chance as a startup of building a growing SPR forum with a monthly changing topic to foucs on.

To re-start and/ or keep this discussion going, I copied the inital email posted by Jeremy Halstead and the comments so far.
I like to invite those of you who are interested to join the discussion and take it from the list to the forum. Please feel free to post your comments and messages.

Best regards,

CA-SPR: CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Society for Psychotherapy Research, Canadian Meeting (CA-SPR)

Montreal, Quebec

October 23-24 2009

Marilyn Fitzpatrick, Martin Drapeau & Lynne Angus (Co-Chairs)

The theme of the meeting will be "Building Bridges Between Science and Practice." The Program Committee encourages proposals that give special attention to the interface between psychotherapy research and psychotherapy practice. All submitted abstracts should make reference to the practice implications of the work to be presented.

The Program Committee welcomes contributions to the field, including reports of innovative research methods and empirical studies of varied treatment modalities (individual, couple, family, group, and milieu therapies), diverse patient populations (children, adolescents, adults, and seniors), a wide range of diagnostic and problem categories (e.g., effects of cultural, political or economic oppression and migration as well as various psychological/psychosomatic disorders), and a broad spectrum of theoretical approaches (e.g., CBT, existential-humanistic, interpersonal, psychodynamic, and systemic).

The official conference language will be English and all submissions should be made in English.

First authorship by an individual is limited to one paper on a Panel. Other program formats such as Posters or Roundtable Discussions are unrestricted. One person can be listed as a coauthor on multiple presentations so long as those are presented by different persons.

Submission Formats

Panels (90 minutes): Papers must be submitted as part of a panel. Please submit one abstract (see Abstract notes below) for each paper included in the panel PLUS an additional abstract providing an overview of the session as a whole (maximum 250 words). We strongly recommend communicating with other researchers in order to organize panels that reflect common interests.

Please leave ample time for discussion of your work; a minimum of 20 minutes in each 90 minute session should be reserved for open discussion with members in the audience, which means that presentations be limited to 20 minutes (if there are three) or 15 minutes (if there are four). The organizer of the panel should designate a moderator.

In keeping with the theme of the conference Building Bridges Between Research and Practice, panel organizers are encouraged to invite practitioners as discussants to comment on the practice relevance of their work.

Roundtable Discussions (90 minutes):- Discussion (sometimes debate) by informed individuals on a current important topic. Consistent with the conference theme, roundtable discussions that discuss and comment on issues related to the integration of psychotherapy research and practice, or that involve both researchers and practitioners are encouraged.

In lieu of an abstract, please submit a description of the nature of the issue to be discussed (250 words maximum).

Poster Session (2 hours): One-on-one discussions between researchers, who display graphic representations of the results of their studies, and interested researcher or practitioner attendees. Please submit one abstract per poster (see Abstract notes below).

Abstract Notes: The maximum abstract length is 250 words. For panels or posters, please structure the abstract with headings: Aim, Methods, Results, Discussion. Consistent with the theme of the conference, please include in the discussion section, the implications of the work for practice. For roundtable discussions please outline the nature of the issue or topic to be addresses. Abstracts will be published on the conference website.

Additional Notes. Depending on the number of submissions and possible time constraints, it may be necessary for the Program Council to request that those who make submissions consider changing the venue for presentation (e.g., oral presentation to poster).

Submission Procedures

Please organize your submission in a document indicating the format (panel, poster or roundtable). All submissions should include the following:

Title (for panels please include a title of the panel as well as titles of individual papers),

Abstract (for panels please include a panel abstract as well as abstracts for individual papers).

Authors' names and affiliations,

Keywords to describe the submission.

Send your submission as an attachment addressed to CASPR.committee@gmail.com.

The submission deadline is April 30, 2009. Notification of acceptance will be sent at the end of June 2009. Please direct queries to Marilyn Fitzpatrick or Martin Drapeau at CASPR.committee@gmail.com.

SPR CHILE: PRELIMINARY PROGRAM

	Dear colleagues,

We are happy to inform you that the preliminary program for the SPR meeting in Santiago de Chile is now posted on the conference website (http://www.psychotherapyresearch.org/displaycommon.cfm?an=1&subarticlenbr=217).

Based on the hundreds of presentations included in this program, there is no doubt in our mind that the meeting will be a very exciting and productive one!

As it is now a tradition with SPR meetings, the web site will be open again in March to give authors an opportunity to edit and/or modify their abstracts before the final program and book of abstracts are created. A note will be send to every authors (and posted on the SPR list serve) a few days before the system will open.

If you have not already done so, please visit the conference web site to register for the conference (the early bird rates end on April 21). When you register, we encourage you to sign in for the banquet as it promises to be a fun one! A reduced banquet fee is offered for students, and we hope that all the students who will be attending the meeting will also come (and bring additional life to) the Saturday night festivities!

You will also find on the web site helpful links about travel information, accommodations (hotels), facts about Santiago, and frequently asked questions regarding the conference. Other information about the meeting, Santiago, and Chile can also be find in newsletters posted on the same conference web site.

If you have any additional questions regarding accommodation, the venue where the meeting will take place, Santiago, or Chile, please contact Guillermo de la Parra (delaparraspr@gmail.com). If you have questions about the conference site, please contact Sven Schneider at support@psychotherapyresearch.org. For questions regarding the scientific program, please contact Louis Castonguay (lgc3@psu.edu).

We are very much looking forward to seeing you in Santiago,

SUPERVISION RESEARCH NETWORK

	Dear SPR Members,

Here in the UK we are putting together a Network of researchers interested in supervision. WE have a small amount of money to promote this activity and we are working hard. WE have put in a bid for a prestigeous seminar series on supervision research which will happen in 2010 if we are successful. We are launching our network at the BACP Research Conference on May 14th in Portsmouth UK.

http://www.bacp.co.uk/research/Supervision_Practice_Research_Network_(SuPReNet)/index.php

We are putting together a portfolio of measures that have been used in supervision research in the past that we will organise and use as a resource for the network. We are searching for these measures by all means possible and would be delighted if you could send us electronic copies of any measures that you have used, with details of the source and any copyright issues.

If you would like further details of the network and our activities please be in touch with us.

Best wishes

STUDY OF CLIENTS' EXPERIENCES OF PSYCHOTHERAPY ENDING (TERMINATION)

<p>If you have participated in therapy as a client, we invite you to
take part in a new study examining clients' experiences of termination in psychotherapy. Your
experience of termination as a client will offer rich data to better understand clients'
experiences of the process of termination in therapy.</p> <p>
Termination can occur for a variety of reasons in short-term, long-term, and time-limited
psychotherapy. In the current study, we are interested in termination that you consider to be
significant or powerful. For this reason, we have not set any limits on length of therapy or
reasons for initiating the termination. The only criterion for participation is that you have
experienced a termination within the past three years that you consider to have been impactful
in some way. </p><p> Our hope is that your participation will give
you a chance to provide your perspective about such experiences and help us understand them
from the client's point of view. You'll also have a chance, when we send you the results (a
draft of the manuscript), to compare your experiences with those of others who participated in
the study. This study has been approved by the institutional review boards at the researchers'
institutions (i.e., Marquette University, Shippensburg University).
</p><p> The study involves 2 audiotaped telephone interviews for
each participant, the first about 45 minutes long and the second about 15 minutes long, spaced
about 2 weeks apart.</p> <p> Participants need to meet the
following criteria: <ul> <li> Adult (i.e., at least 18 years of
age)</li> <li>Have been in individual outpatient
psychotherapy</li> <li>Have experienced at least one termination
considered significant or powerful in the last three years</li>
</ul> </p><p> We would greatly value your
contribution to this relatively unexplored area. If you do not meet the criteria listed above,
please pass along this announcement to others who may be eligible and interested in
participating. Thank you very much! </p> <p> Sarah Knox, Ph.D.
