Past President's Report: 2015-2016

Let me begin my recap of some of the highlights of the SPR year with a confession. I loved being SPR’s President! As you’ll see below, the year went anything but according to plan, yet it concluded with some efforts that should strengthen SPR into the future and provide greater benefits to the membership. For this experience, and the two years building up to it, I offer you my heartfelt gratitude for allowing me to serve SPR in this role. While memories of the crises and late evening emails fade, my gratitude will remain.

Executive Officer Update

As I assume the tasks of EO I want to again extend my gratitude and thanks to Tracy Eells for an outstanding job. He has left SPR in sound financial shape and poised for continued growth. With “time on his hands” I hope to hear more from his efforts on the mandolin.

At the June meeting of SPR’s Executive Committee, it was noted that a number of the committees developed to assist the EC were more long-standing in nature and did not fit the term ad hoc as identified in the Bylaws.

Journal Annual Report 2015

During 2015, 71 papers were published in six issues of Psychotherapy Research. The manuscript types were as follows:  66 Original Manuscripts, 3 Introductions, and 2 Corrigenda.  There were three special issues on Building collaboration and communication between researchers and clinicians, Society for Psychotherapy Research 25th Anniversary Edition, and Patient-focused and feedback research in psychotherapy.

Communications Committee Report

The main activities of the Communication Committee this past year have focused on the roll-out of the newsletter templates, promotion of Psychotherapy Research journal articles, increasing our social media presence and formulating a social media strategy, and the restructuring/resurrection of the webinar subcommittee.

Paul Crits-Christoph

Distinguished Research Career Award

Paul Crits-Christoph received his PhD in Psychology (Clinical) from Yale University in 1984 and has been on the faculty in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania since completing his degree.

Jeremy Safran

Distinguished Research Career Award

Jeremy D. Safran received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of British Columbia, and completed postdoctoral training in psychoanalysis at the New York University Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy & Psychoanalysis. He is Professor of Psychology at the New School for Social Research and former Director of Clinical Training.

Ueli Kramer

Early Career Achievement Award

Dr. Ueli Kramer is Privat-Docent at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, Adjunct Professor at the University of Windsor, Canada, and is currently working as Research Fellow at the Department of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School and McLean Hospital in Belmont, MA, USA.

Early Career Achievement Award

Dr. Zilcha-Mano is a licensed clinical psychologist and a senior lecturer of clinical psychology in the Department of Psychology, University of Haifa.

She received her PhD from Bar-Ilan University, where she was mentored by Prof. Mario Mikulincer. Her dissertation was on applications of attachment theory, and especially the ways in which old maladaptive working models may or may not be projected onto new relationships.
