Getting There

For NSW or interstate visitors, Newcastle has direct flights from Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Gold Coast and Brisbane and is serviced by Jetstar, Virgin Blue, Qantas, Aeropelican, Brindabella Airlines and Norfolk Air. Taxis from the airport into Newcastle cost approximately $50 depending on traffic. There are also public buses that travel between Newcastle airport and Newcastle train station: http://www.pscoaches.com.au/airport.php

International visitors will need to fly into Sydney first and change planes for the leg to Newcastle.

An alternate to flying from Sydney is to catch the train from Central to Newcastle on the Newcastle and Central Coast line. The trip takes between 2.5 hours and 3 hours depending on whether you catch an express train or not. It is a scenic trip passing through the Hawkesbury River area. Newcastle in general

December is usually a lovely time of year in Newcastle when the water is warm enough to swim in.
