|SPR Newsletter September 2016: Executive Officer Update|
As I assume the tasks of EO I want to again extend my gratitude and thanks to Tracy Eells for an outstanding job. He has left SPR in sound financial shape and poised for continued growth. With “time on his hands” I hope to hear more from his efforts on the mandolin.
At the June meeting of SPR’s Executive Committee, it was noted that a number of the committees developed to assist the EC were more long-standing in nature and did not fit the term ad hoc as identified in the Bylaws. To clarify this issue, the EC is recommending a small addition specifying that the president can appoint both ad hoc (temporary) and standing (long-term) committees. The following will be identified as SPR standing committees: Communications, Small Grant Awards Committee, International Student Travel Awards, Lester Luborsky Student Poster Award Committee, Finance Committee, and Investment Committee. The following will be identified as an ad hoc committee: Journal Editor Committee.
The change to be voted on is as follows:
The EC recommends that SPR’s Constitution Article IV, Section E (SPR Committees), 4 [a] be amended to read “The President may appoint ad hoc and standing committees for set terms and for purposes that are consistent with the Constitution and By-Laws of the Society, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council”
