Organizational news

As previously announced, we have a new President-Elect, Svenja Taubner. Svenja, who is the director of the Institute for Psychosocial Prevention at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, has been an active member of the SPR community since 2008 and has served as an Early Career Counselor for the SPRISTAD special interest section on trainee development for the past three years. She was the local host for the European Meeting of the SPR 2015 in Klagenfurt and is already involved in planning the international meeting of the SPR in Heidelberg in 2021. Congratulations to Svenja!

Joint conference UK/ European Chapters September 2017

The 4th joint UK & European SPR Chapters conference took place in Oxford, UK, September 20-22, 2017. With more than 240 participants and a substantial financial surplus the congress was a great success, thanks to the combined efforts of the local hosts committee and the program committee with members from both chapters. The Examination Schools in the historic centre of Oxford provided a perfect venue for the conference, which was kicked off by an inspiring and thought provoking keynote address by our new President-Elect, Bruce

Wampold. The breadth and quality of the presentations was remarkable and the conference banquet, hosted in the Harry Potter'esque Grand Hall at Balliol College, proved that SPR-members not only know how to dress properly for the occasion but also how to keep each other spellbound with song and dance from our respective countries!

Once again, we had issued student travel awards for the conference and the recipients were: Ylva Gidhagen, Rebecca Kratochvil, Tamar Axelrad Levy, Jonas Lüdemann, Danilo Moggia, Beatriz Garcia Ruiz, Paul Schröder, Karolina Staniaszek, Brian Schwartz and Noa Tsvieli. We asked the recipients of the awards to write a few words about their experiences at the conference and the following statement sums up the ambiance of the conference really nicely: "The thing that I really value at SPR conferences in contrast to other conferences is the absolutely relaxed feeling and collegiate spirit. After my talk, for example, it felt OK to ask a renowned scientist what he thought of my statistical analysis and he told me I could send him my analysis and we could have a chat about it".
