The UK chapter was established in April of 1984. We convene monthly for Skype meetings and for an annual all-day face-to-face meeting. The Chapter continues to progress with our plans to develop initiatives to support psychotherapy research in the UK and to build bridges between clinicians and researchers.

SPR UK Chapter is dedicated to providing a strong, locally based resource for psychotherapy researchers in the UK. As part of the wider SPR international community, UK Chapter aims to support and provide local networks to anyone interested in and involved with psychotherapy research in the UK.

UK Chapter has developed over the years through the commitment and dedication of a rich foundation of researchers and clinicians and there is a long tradition of inclusiveness in the Chapter. As in the wider international community we welcome researchers and clinicians from across professional, therapeutic and theoretical modalities, and from across an extensive and diverse range of research methods and methodological perspectives. We encourage new and novice researchers to be part of the Chapter, alongside experts and masters in the field.

Within the Chapter we benefit from the input of our membership, and of members of our local council or ‘steering group’. We organise a variety of events, including UK conferences and joint conferences with other UK organisations and the SPR EU Chapter. As a Chapter we have close links with a number of national and professional organisations in the UK. We are particularly proud of the support and encouragement we provide to students and to developing researchers, reflected in our strong commitment to student travel awards.  We welcome new members and new ideas.

We aim to be an active, inclusive and effective Chapter, responding to the ever changing needs of members, and to the evolving context of psychotherapy research and practice in the UK.
