SPR Newsletter November 2016: President's Message

“Stronger Together”

I know many of our members across the world are aware of and concerned about what has been transpiring during our presidential election process here in the US.  The rhetoric has been quite divisive and disturbing for the most part.  There is, however, one expression “Stronger Together” that I have always appreciated as a great truth, and I want to use it to acknowledge and celebrate all the efforts by so many that make SPR thrive.

In this newsletter, you will find reports from our various chapter presidents (Susan Hajkowski, John Ogrodniczuk, Stig Poulsen, and Fernanda Serralta) that highlight their significant contributions and those of their constituencies.  Also, you will see the call for our next international conference in Toronto to be organized by Paulo Machado as program chair and Jeanne Watson as local host chair with support from their respective committees.  In addition, Nelson Valdes and Chris Perry provide direction on some of our award programs, and our new Executive Officer Marna Barrett makes her presence felt.

I would also like to recognize our journal editors Wolfgang Lutz and Jeff Hayes, our communications committee led by Tali Boritz, our new web content editor Katie Aafjes-van Doorn, and of course our webmaster Sven Schneider.    I would like to thank Taylor & Francis for their collaboration and support.  Finally, I would like to welcome Mariane Kraus our new general vice-president and thank Rob DeRubeis for his willingness to run for this office and for all his contributions to our field and organization.

These are just some of the more conspicuous examples of individuals who have made SPR stronger.  “It does take a village!”  For those who are inspired to contribute to SPR, please let me or your chapter presidents know.  We are strengthened by your service.
